Grapefruit is not only the favorite fruit of yachtswoman Clarisse Crémer (11th in the Vendée Globe race), it's also one of the star flavors of 2025! Rich in health benefits, in particular for digestion and immune system strengthening, this fruit fits in perfectly with emerging consumer needs.  Thanks to its subtle balance between sweetness and bitterness, it is ideal for a wide range of applications: drinks, dairy products, desserts and ice cream.

The origin of the fruit

Grapefruit is a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia and the islands of the Caribbean Sea. Its first documented appearance dates back to the 17th century in Barbados, where it is said to have originated from a natural cross between the sweet orange and the Asian pomelo. Thanks to its unique taste, it soon conquered other continents.

Today, this fruit is grown in subtropical climates, notably in the USA (Florida and Texas), China, India and South Africa. This citrus fruit grows on a tree that can reach up to 6 meters in height. It is round and large, and covered with a thick skin that ranges from pale yellow to bright pink, depending on the variety.

This citrus fruit is harvested mainly between autumn and spring, when the fruit has accumulated sufficient sugars. The most common varieties include white grapefruit, which has a tangier taste, and pink grapefruit, which is sweeter and popular for juicing.

What are the benefits of this note?

Grapefruit is a real nutritional treasure, combining taste pleasure with health benefits. This fruit is exceptionally rich in vitamin C, a powerful ally for boosting the immune system and reducing fatigue. Its antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, help protect the body's cells against the effects of aging and chronic disease.

Low in calories but rich in fiber, this citrus fruit promotes satiety and helps maintain good digestion. Last but not least, it contains potassium, which contributes to proper functioning of the heart and helps regulate blood pressure.
