Flavor of the moment: Pear
In French, we say “se fend la poire” (to laugh your “pear”/head off) when we laugh out loud... proof that this fruit has been making people smile for a very long time! Juicy, tender and delicately sweet, pears add freshness and indulgence to our recipes. Its subtle fragrance, at the same time floral and fruity, pairs equally well with desserts and drinks.
Where do pears come from?
Pears, which grow on pear trees, are known for their tender, slightly grainy flesh. Native to Central Asia, they were already being cultivated in China over 4,000 years ago. They later made their way to Europe, where the Greeks and Romans embraced them for their sweetness and medicinal properties. Homer even called them the “fruit of the gods”.
Much later, in France, pears were popularized in the 17th century thanks to Louis XIV and his gardener Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie, who introduced many varieties into the King's Kitchen Garden.
The nutritional benefits of pears
Pears are a light and refreshing fruit. Rich in fiber and water, they promote healthy digestion and help you feel naturally full. They also provide vitamins C and K, along with antioxidants that support the immune system and protect cells. Low in calories, pears combine wellness and indulgence in everyday life.

What products are pears used in?
Pears are a traditional fruit, rooted in many cultures and enjoyed around the world. Often featured in limited editions or seasonal products, they evoke the comfort of a familiar, reassuring taste. Yet they also charm with their ability to reinvent themselves, pairing beautifully with bolder, more surprising combinations.
In baking and pastry, pears shine in tarts, muffins, clafoutis and soft cakes.
In frozen desserts and dairy products, they add freshness and lightness to compotes, yogurts, dessert creams and sorbets. They area also found in concentrated purées, juices and smoothies, which are used to flavor drinks and cocktails.
Last but not least, pears can be found in the world of spirits, with emblematic eaux-de-vie such as Poire Williams, fruity liqueurs and cocktails where they add a sweet, refined touch.
